This weekend 3 girlfriends and I escaped for a wellness retreat at Solar Springs. I can’t actually believe it! I don’t think I’ve had a girl’s weekend since children. I’ve been away for work trips and the like, but not your classic girl’s weekend with a group of great ladies. It is heaven! First stop was a massage before I checked in. 10am was the only spot available so unfortunately I had to get here early. Shame. A great way to kick off the weekend and slip into bliss. Next stop meditation in the pagoda. As soon as I saw it, it had my name all over it, a private spot to wind down from leaving the reality of family chaos in the morning to finding peace and calm for the weekend. It’s been the most amazing hot weather so some shade and a light breeze in my little pagoda were heaven.
Next, time to catch up with the girls now we are all here. Within the first hour we had had the obligatory chats about marriage, sex, fertility and family. Then, this is a bit embarrassing…Aqua Aerobics…(!) Does this mean I’m old? I’ve actually never done it before. It wasn’t a bad workout, and we all looked delightful with our caps and noodles. That was enough for me, so a little siesta in our teeny tiny room. The bedrooms were unbelievably small, but as long as you’re staying with a good friend as I was it’s do-able. The only thing that would get me up was food, so I shuffled down to a delish dinner…Potato and Leek soup, home made gnocci and a chocolate and rhubarb pot for dessert (my favourite course if you don’t know me already). Not a bad sleep for a single bed with room mate, not bad at all.
Day 2 and only food will get me up again, more yummy healthy treats. Then a trip to the beauty room, an hour later a lady noticed me stumbling out in a state of bliss and asked what treatment I’d just had (Radiance Facial if you’re wondering) and we got chatting. She comes here the same weekend every year with a group of school mums, how cool is that! She said “we call ourselves Mums on the run, we’ve decided we’re going to get t’shirts made next year”. Love it, I think my little group may have just have to do the same thing. We can join the mums on the run revolution. So important to have a break. Us mothers don’t tend to get a break. Parenting is not a 9-5 job, it’s 24/7. So ladies, do what you can to book yourself a mini break with your mates and experience some me time before you forget who you are! My husband said I looked 2 years younger when I got home. Winning! I’m sure each child has aged me a few years. So…a little break is just what we need to get our mummy mojo back. We’ve only been away for 1 night, so the family won’t fall apart but it’s still enough to revive the mind body and spirit. Go and do it mummas!
